Armed robbery at travel agents in Liverpool City Centre

An armed robbery has taken place at a travel agents in Liverpool city centre, police said.

Officers were called to the Thomson shop on Lord Street at 0930 BST following reports that masked men had taken a "substantial amount" of money.

Police believe two men, one armed with a knife, tied up three members of staff and took cash from a safe, before being driven from the scene by a third man.

They have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Members of staff were uninjured, but were said to be "distressed".

One of the robbers was described as wearing a high-visibility jacket, grey combat trousers, and the other was described as wearing black clothing.

Officers believe they fled in a silver Subaru Impreza, driven by a third man, who was wearing a sleeveless fluorescent top.

Det Insp Dominic Harrison: "Obviously this area of the city centre is particularly busy at this time of the day, and we are keen to trace anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw two men acting suspiciously."
