A 25-year-old man shot dead in a Liverpool street has been named by police.

Kevin Anthony Gott, from Anfield, was found lying in Brayfield Road, Norris Green, at about 22:10 BST on Tuesday.

A post-mortem examination confirmed he died from a single bullet wound to the head, Merseyside Police said.

Det Ch Insp Dave Brunskill, who is leading the murder inquiry, said a motive had not been established but said it was not a random attack.

Officers are also investigating a second incident in nearby Larkhill Lane, where several bullets were found on the ground following reports of gunshots. No-one was injured.

'Seek justice'

A silver Ford Focus has been seized and is being examined, along with a blue Ford Mondeo which was found in Hedges Close in the early hours of Wednesday.

Mr Brunskill said: "We are keeping an open mind as to whether both incidents are connected and we are following several lines of inquiry to try and build up a picture of what happened in the area on Tuesday night when Kevin was killed."

He added: "I would like to appeal to people in the area who may have information that could help us investigate this murder and seek justice for his family to please get in touch.

"Your information, however insignificant it may seem, could be important to us progressing this investigation."
