Man hurt in Merseyside ship fall

A man had to be rescued using a crane after he suffered suspected back and foot injuries when he fell in the hold of a ship berthed on Merseyside.

Merseyside Fire Service were called to the ship moored in the Royal Seaforth Container Terminal at about 21:30 GMT on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old man, who had fallen 7ft (2.1m), was lifted out on a spinal board.

He was lowered by crane to an ambulance and taken to Aintree Hospital.
