Woman, 47, stabbed to death in Southport named

A woman stabbed to death in Merseyside on Thursday has been named by police.

Rebecca Holmes, 47, died following an incident at Cherry Road in Southport. Post-mortem tests revealed she died as a result of multiple stab wounds.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 18:10 GMT. The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance but she was later pronounced dead.

A 50-year-old man from the Toxteth area has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Her next of kin has been informed.
