Shots fired outside Kirkby primary school

Shots were fired outside a primary school while parents were waiting for their children to come out.

Merseyside Police said the incident had happened outside St Lawrence's Primary School on Leeside Avenue, Southdene, Kirkby, at about 15:00 GMT.

Officers believe the shots were fired from a person on a motorcycle at a silver car.

There were no reports of any injuries but a car parked in Leeside Avenue was damaged.

Crime scene investigators are at the scene and the car will be removed for forensic examinations.

'Beggars belief'

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Ch Supt Mike Cloherty, Knowsley Area Commander, said: "I would urge anyone who has information about this incident to come forward.

"It beggars belief that anyone could do something like this outside a primary school. We are so fortunate that no-one was injured in this incident and enough is enough."

He added: "I want to take this opportunity to appeal to members of the community in Kirkby who have any information about this incident, or those involved to come forward.

"We will act on all information given to us. These people had no regard for any of the members of the public who were on Leeside Avenue at the time, or the children who were due to come out of school, and they need to be stopped."
