Energy industry engineering jobs boost for Cheshire

An energy firm is creating another 100 jobs just six months after recruiting 150 skilled engineers and designers in Cheshire.

Wood Group PSN provides engineering services for existing gas and oil installations from the Heath Business and Technical Park in Runcorn.

The company said the expansion was due to its increased workload.

Its UK arm which is based in Aberdeen has won several North Sea contracts in the past year.

Graham Jackson, Wood Group PSN's North England operations business manager, said: "We are expanding our network of highly skilled engineers and designers at The Heath to service growing North Sea contracts.

"We were so impressed by the quality and calibre of skilled workers in the region after we launched a recruitment drive last September that we are keen to tap into the same strong skill base in the area again.

"And interestingly, around 70% of our employees now live just 15 minutes from our offices at The Heath."

Across the UK, the firm employs almost 8,000 people and has offices in Aberdeen, Runcorn, Glasgow and Hull. Wood Group PSN's target is to employ a 300-strong workforce at The Heath.
