Man arrested over fatal crash in Liverpool

A man has died and another was seriously hurt when a car hit a tree on Merseyside.

Four men in their early 20s were travelling in the BMW which crashed on Childwall Valley Road, Childwall, Liverpool, on Friday.

Police said a back seat passenger suffered multiple injuries. He was later pronounced dead in hospital.

The driver from Kirkdale has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and causing death by dangerous driving.

A second back-seat passenger suffered a serious head injury and a broken arm. Police said he is in a "serious but stable" condition in Fazakerley Hospital.

The front seat passenger suffered minor injuries to his head and back and is being treated in hospital.
