Athletes compete in Liverpool Triathlon

More than 1,000 athletes have taken part in Liverpool's fourth annual Triathlon.

Competitors completed a 40km (25 mile) cycle race and 10km (6 mile) run, taking in the Liver Building, Echo Arena and the Albert Dock.

They also took the plunge for a 1.5km (0.9 mile) swim in the Queen's and Wapping Docks.

Clark Ellice from New Zealand won the event for the men and Daniela Ryf from Switzerland won the women's event.

British athletes Liz Blatchford, Holly Lawrence and Jodie Stimpson also took part, as did Double Ironman World Champion, Australian Chris McCormack.

Several roads were closed for the event, which took place between 08:00 and 13:00 BST on Sunday.
