A doorman found guilty of assaulting St Helens rugby league player Sia Soliola outside a bar has avoided jail.

Soliola was treated for facial injuries following the attack outside the Imperial Bar in Ormskirk Street, St Helens, on 12 March 2012.

He was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, suspended for two years, at Liverpool Crown Court.

He was also ordered to do 200 hours unpaid community work and pay £350 compensation to the Kiwi international.
