Four held over 'machine gun' find in Liverpool

Four people have been arrested after police found what they believe is a machine gun at an address in Liverpool.

The arrests came after police stopped a car on Higher Road, Halewood, in the early hours and arrested two men on suspicion of going equipped for theft.

Officers then searched an address in Speke and found a firearm, ammunition and what is believed to be cannabis.

Four people were then held on suspicion of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and drugs offences.

The four - three men aged 18, 21 and 44 and a 23-year-old woman - have been taken to police stations on Merseyside where they will be questioned later.

The two initially arrested - a 21-year-old man from Speke and a 34-year-old man from Old Swan - will also be questioned by officers.
