General Motors charged over Ellesmere Port factory death

The company that owns Vauxhall is being prosecuted over the death of an employee at a Merseyside factory.

Electrician Stanley Heard, 59, of Birkenhead, was found crushed in machinery at the car factory in Ellesmere Port in July 2010.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has brought criminal proceedings against General Motors UK, based in Luton, Bedfordshire.

The firm is due to appear before Liverpool magistrates on Thursday.

The charges relate to failing to ensure the safety of employees and failing to prevent access to dangerous parts of machinery, the HSE said.
