Teenager indecently assaulted in Widnes

A 17-year-old girl was indecently assaulted as she walked along a street in Widnes on Monday, police said.

The victim was approached by a man as she walked along Cross Street, Widnes between 17:00 and 17:30 GMT.

Cheshire Police said he grabbed her inappropriately, smiled and walked away. The man is described as being in his late 30s.

Sgt Neil Edgar said police were patrolling the area and he urged residents to "remain vigilant".

He said people should avoid isolated areas alone, keep to well-lit areas and report any suspicious activity to police.
