Arrest over Liverpool burglary of woman aged 101

A woman has been arrested in connection with the attempted burglary at the home of a Liverpool woman aged 101.

Police said the offender tricked her way into the house in Stoneycroft on Sunday by asking to use her phone.

She then demanded cash from the centenarian and tried to snatch her purse from her handbag.

The victim managed to hold on to her bag and the suspect left empty handed. A Liverpool woman, 42, has been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Det Insp Phil Mahon, of Merseyside Police, praised the victim for fighting off the offender.

"She bravely fought the offender off and I have nothing but admiration for her determination and remarkable spirit."

He said she suffered a slight abrasion to her arm but otherwise was uninjured.

He added she was left upset following her ordeal.
