St Helens stabbing: Woman held on suspicion of murdering David Butterworth

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Merseyside from a stab wound.

David Butterworth, 38, of St Helens was found outside a property on Tilbrook Drive in Peasley Cross, Sutton in the early hours of Sunday.

Police said he was taken to hospital but died later that morning.

A woman, 28, from St Helens, was arrested at the house on suspicion of assault. She was subsequently re-arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police said a post-mortem examination had found he died of a single stab wound.

Mr Butterworth's family said he would "always be in our hearts".

In a statement the family added: "After the tragic loss of our son David, who will be sadly missed, the family request privacy to grieve him."
