Jordan Campbell: Third man held over flat fire teen death

A third man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a teenager was found dead on New Year's Day.

Jordan Campbell, 17, was found at a flat in in Tickle Avenue, St Helens, Merseyside at about 12:00 GMT.

Police had been called to reports of an assault at about 11:55, when they saw smoke coming from the property.

Two men aged 25 and 22, arrested on suspicion of murder, remain in police custody. A third man, 32, is also being questioned.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service extinguished a number of small fires inside the flat.

Firefighters found the body of the teenager, who was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

A post-mortem examination found he died as a result of a single stab wound.

Det Ch Insp Sue Coombs said: "We believe there was a New Year's Eve party at the flat which continued into the following morning.

"We have traced some of the people, but we still need to speak to anyone who was there and hasn't come forward.

"I would appeal to anyone who was at the party or anyone with information about the incident, however small, to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency."
