Police believe three armed men who raided a jewellers in a historic Norfolk town, may have London connections.

The men brandished weapons, believed to be axes, in Webbs County Jewellers in Holt's High Street on Tuesday.

A light coloured Audi used as a getaway car was recovered by police in nearby Baconsthorpe. It had been set on fire.

The owner of the shop was injured in the raid, but it is not known how serious his injuries were.

The offenders are believed to have fled with a number of items of jewellery.

In a statement Norfolk police said: "This investigation is still in its early stages and further inquiries are being made to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident.

"Officers are however following up inquiries in the London area."
