Norfolk poultry firm fined over accidents to workers

A poultry processing firm in Norfolk has been fined £8,000 with £5,500 costs after two serious injury accidents to workers.

The gloved hand of an employee at Crown Chicken in Diss was caught in a machine, pulled on to a cutter and the skin ripped off.

A second worker had a finger severed in a fork truck incident.

At Thetford Magistrates' Court the company pleaded guilty to four breaches of health and safety law.

A Health and Safety Executive investigation found the cutting machine had no adequate guards, an emergency stop button was missing and the worker's gloves did not offer the protection required.
