A rally has taken place in Norwich in protest at the government's public spending cuts.

Workers, students and trade unionists gathered at Hay Hill in Norwich where they hoped to build public support for their campaign.

Chancellor George Osborne announced deep public spending cuts on Wednesday.

The Norfolk Coalition Against the Cuts staged the event, which included speakers from unions and community groups.

The government said the cuts were necessary to reduce the UK's £155bn deficit and strengthen the UK's economy in the longer term.

It aims to save £83bn in four years.
