Power cut to 1,000 homes in central Norfolk town

Power has been cut to more than 1,000 homes in central Norfolk where temperatures are barely above freezing.

Engineers from EDF Energy are working to restore the power in North Walsham and the surrounding area.

EDF said the power cut was caused by a fault on the high voltage network just before 1000 GMT on Wednesday.

Millfield Primary School in the town has had to close because of the cut and parents are being contacted to pick up their children.

EDF Energy has apologised to those without power "particularly because of the cold weather".
