A 40-year-old woman has died after her car collided with a 4x4 in Norfolk.

She was driving a Citroen C3 which collided with a Toyota Hi-Lux on the A149 at North Walsham on Sunday.

Police said it happened near to the Old Yarmouth Road junction at 1000 GMT. The woman was taken to hospital where she died.

Her son, 11, is in hospital with head injuries and his 13-year-old sister was discharged from hospital following treatment for minor injuries.

The male driver of the Toyota received minor injuries, police said.

The crash happened during difficult driving conditions as a result of the weather, but the cause of the accident is not yet known, a police spokesman added.

Sgt Simon Atherton said: "This is a tragic incident that has claimed the life of a mother on Boxing Day.

"Our thoughts are with the victim's family at this difficult time.

"I would like to remind all road users to drive to the conditions.

"Many roads may appear to be clear but are extremely icy."
