Arts and media students at a Norfolk college are to benefit from a £5.7m facility, after it was granted planning permission by the local council.

The new creative arts building at City College Norwich will feature performing arts rehearsal spaces, a TV studio and media editing suites.

The three-storey centre on its Ipswich Road campus will also house music recording facilities.

The building is set be opened for the new academic year in September 2013.

College principal Dick Palmer said: "The new building will provide an inspiring, modern new environment to prepare students for the many career opportunities available to them in the creative and cultural sector."

A third of the facility has been funded by a grant from the Skills Funding Agency.
