Wayland Agricultural Show cancelled after sewage leak

Organisers of an agricultural show in Norfolk have called it off after concerns that sewage from a treatment plant may have spilled on to the site during heavy rain.

The 139th Wayland Agricultural Show, held near Watton, was to be held on Sunday with 15,000 visitors expected.

But on Saturday night, organisers said it had to be cancelled.

A thunder storm had caused a pumping station to fail, sending raw sewage into ditches near the grounds.

The Wayland Show organisers issued a statement on its website saying: "We have been advised by Anglian Water that no public can be permitted to enter the showground for public health and safety reasons."

Anglian Water said it was the organisers' decision to cancel the show.
