The University of East Anglia is to rename its students union after its entertainments manager, who died last month.

Nick Rayns, 61, had been organising concerts at the Union of UEA Students, known as the LCR, since June 1979.

During that time the number of events rose from a handful each year to more than 60, the union said.

The father-of-three died on 15 April. The UEA said the venue would be called the Nick Rayns LCR in his honour.

At the time of his death, the union's Di Anderson said: "Nick was the most well-liked and respected of gentle giants and known throughout the live music industry.

"I have worked with Nick for 22 years and couldn't have wanted to work with someone that was more fun - so long as the job was done, it didn't matter how we got there."

Mr Rayns was also responsible for organising about 200 concerts at the Norwich Waterfront each year.
