Two schools were evacuated after a World War Two grenade was discovered in the garage of a house nearby.

Children from Northfields St Nicholas Primary and St Margaret's Primary schools in Lowestoft safely evacuated the buildings, Suffolk Police said.

Police were called at 10:40 GMT. They advised residents to leave and closed roads in the Kelly-Pain Court area.

Suffolk Police said the bomb disposal squad was called and discovered the hand grenade was not live.

The police cordon has now been lifted.

Suffolk County Council said pupils at both the schools returned to their lessons.
