The heliport in Great Yarmouth will close following the loss of a major contract.

CHC Helicopter, which owns and operates North Denes Airfield in Norfolk, said it was no longer "viable".

Oil and and gas firm Perenco, one of its main clients, has now moved its offshore flights to Norwich Airport after relocating its town office.

CHC Helicopter said a consultation has started with the heliport's 30 staff and some may be transferred to Norwich.

The jobs could be moved to the city's airport because of a new 22-month contract with energy giant Shell, which starts in July.

The firm will fly three helicopters from Norwich and Den Helder in the Netherlands to Shell's North Sea installations.

It invested more than £300,000 in the North Denes site in 2011.

It is not yet known when the Great Yarmouth heliport will close.
