Kettering council office could house magistrates' court

A magistrates' court in Northamptonshire could move into a council building under Ministry of Justice plans to save on running costs.

Kettering Borough Council is due to discuss later whether its office in Bowling Green Road could accommodate the court, based on nearby London Road.

The proposal aims to save more than £100,000 a year.

Kettering is among 103 magistrates' courts and 54 county courts earmarked for closure in England and Wales.

Outlining the plans in June, the government said the closures would save at least £15m a year plus an extra £22m in maintaining the buildings.
