Poster appeal over Cosgrove canal death man

Police are trying to trace the last movements of a man whose body was found in a Northamptonshire canal.

Post-mortem tests revealed 46-year-old Robert Smith, who owned a narrow boat on the canal at Cosgrove, died from drowning.

Police said they did not know at this stage how Mr Smith came to be in the water.

Posters appealing for information have been put up and distributed in the area around the canal.

Det Insp Stuart Hitchon said: "We are pretty sure that this is not a suspicious death but we do not know how Mr Smith came to be in the water."
