An inquest into the death of Rushden and Diamonds goalkeeper Dale Roberts has been opened and adjourned.

Mr Roberts, who was 24, was found at his home in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire, on Tuesday.

Deputy coroner Rodney Haig opened the inquest where the cause of death was given as asphyxia.

Rushden and Diamonds opened Nene Park on Wednesday for fans to pay tribute to the player who joined Diamonds in 2009 and was an England C international.

Northamptonshire Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

The inquest was opened at Kettering Magistrates' Court.

The goalkeeper's fiancée, Lindsey Cowan, described him as "my childhood sweetheart and the love of my life".
