Farmers help clear Northamptonshire roads

Two farmers have helped gritting teams clear two Northamptonshire roads following heavy snow.
The county council said gritting teams had a busy weekend when temperatures dropped to -11C.
Two farmers in the south of the region attached snow ploughs to their tractors and cleared the A508 and A5.
A council spokesman said the farmers belonged to a group of volunteers who offered to use their machinery to clear roads in bad weather.
Crews started gritting at 0345 GMT on Monday and pavements in towns will be inspected and treated as required, the spokesman said.
