Northamptonshire disruption after heavy snowfall

Northamptonshire has experienced a heavy snowfall, with about three to four inches (7.6cm to 10.1cm) falling in some areas.

Snowfall on Wednesday created hazardous conditions, including on the M1, and disrupted bin collections in Northampton and Daventry.

Surgeries in north Northants told BBC Northampton they had dealt with a spate of injuries caused by falls.

London Midland is running an altered timetable due to the severe weather.

This includes the cancellation of many of its Northampton to London Euston trains throughout Wednesday.

'No major collisions'

Northamptonshire County Council said its gritters were out overnight and urged people to drive carefully.

It is expected to make an announcement about its planned gritting routes for Wednesday night.

At 1245 GMT a police spokesman said: "Luckily, we have not had any major problems or collisions in the county.

"The A45 Upton Way and Danes Campy Way was closed for a short period of time to allow the gritters to get through, but has now been reopened.

"The A45 Barnes Meadow roundabout was incredibly congested, but has now cleared significantly.

"We have not had any serious collisions and a lot of the traffic appears to be the result of minor obstructions and people getting stuck."
