Barn blaze in Wardington tackled by firefighters

A fire in two barns on the Northamptonshire Oxfordshire border has forced the evacuation of nearby homes.

About 20 people will spend the night in hotels after the fire took hold in the Dutch barns at Wardington Gate Farm, Edgecote Lane, Wardington near Banbury.

Northamptonshire fire crews are being assisted by pumps from Oxfordshire and RAF Croughton at the barns which are full of straw and fertiliser.

Two people were treated at the scene for the effects of breathing in smoke.

The fire started at about 1445 GMT.

People living in the nearby village of Wardington were being advised to keep their doors and windows shut.
