A fire that destroyed one of Northamptonshire's oldest buildings has saddened people who live nearby.

Armada House, in the village of Weston and built in 1588, was destroyed in the blaze on Tuesday.

The owner of the house had to be rescued after the fire broke out at 0930 GMT.

An investigation into the cause of the fire at the building, the original manor house in the village, is being carried out.

"The building had so much history, it's sad to see that it no longer exists," said Seth Wilde, who delivered post to the house.

"I have so many fond memories of the property.

"It was the original manor house of Weston before Weston Hall, so it holds a real significance for the village."
