Watermark bought by US publishing giant

A Northamptonshire greeting card company, which employs more than 250 workers, has been bought up by a US card publishing giant.

Corby firm Watermark Publishing has been bought by UK Greetings, the European subsidiary of American Greetings.

Watermark was set up in 1990 as a specialist Christmas card publisher and now produces 40 million cards a year.

Gary Rowley, chief executive of UK Greetings, welcomed the acquisition.

"For many years we have watched and admired the creativity of Watermark," he said.

"Their product has a unique style and tone that resonates with the consumer."

No-one was available to comment from Watermark Publishing.
