A truck stop on a main Northamptonshire road will more than double in size, despite objections over safety.

The truck stop at Lilbourne on the A5 has been given permission to expand by Daventry District Council.

Currently it accommodates 240 lorries and the plans mean new parking areas will be able to take 274 more.

Lilbourne Parish Council expressed concern that slow vehicles using the site would cause problems particularly at a nearby junction.

It also said that as the nearby Daventry International Railfreight Terminal expanded the road would not be able to cope with the huge increase in traffic.

The police have welcomed the increase in secure lorry parking spaces.

Crick Parish Council fully supported the application as it felt the extension could ease the overnight parking problems of HGVs in its lay-bys.
