A man has been arrested on suspicion of trapping wild finches in Northampton.

The 35-year-old Albanian man was arrested on the Brampton Valley Way on Monday over offences under the Wildlife and Countryside Act.

The breeding and keeping of finches is lawful providing the birds are bred and legally held in captivity, the RSPB said.

However the trapping and possession of wild finches is a criminal activity.
