Plan under way to restore Northampton 'alderman' honour

  • Published

Plans to bring back an honour to mark outstanding contributions to the community are to be discussed by a council later this year.

Northampton Borough Council is to look at proposals to award the title of Honorary Aldermen to councillors with many years of service.

Any former borough councillor who has served on the authority for more than 20 years will be considered.

The last aldermen were inducted in 2004 but in 2008 the title was abolished.

A report is expected to be put before councillors in July to pave the way for a return to awarding the honour.
