Roade gas leak causes disruption to traffic

A village near Northampton remains sealed off to traffic because of a major gas leak.

Emergency services were alerted to the leak just before 09:00 BST after a strong smell of gas was detected in the village of Roade.

A 150m (492ft) cordon has been set up circling the junction of the A508 Northampton Road and Courteenhall Road, but no homes have been evacuated.

National Grid said the disruption was likely to last into the rush hour.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.

Police have closed the A508 between junction 15 and the north of the village and the Courteenhall Road between its junctions with the A508 and Connegar Leys in Blisworth.

Diversion routes have been put in place with some traffic being re-routed via Ashton and Hartwell.
