Three Northamptonshire country park shops to close

Three country park shops are to close in Northamptonshire and be replaced by unmanned visitor centres.

The council-run shops at Sywell and Barnwell Country parks will shut on Monday and the shop at Brixworth will close once it runs out of stock.

The council said four full-time jobs would be lost. It said the move was needed as the shops were losing money.

Officials said the shops at Sywell and Barnwell would be replaced with cafes in the long-term.

The new visitor centres will include information about the parks and games or activities for families.

Cabinet member for customer services Heather Smith said: "Unfortunately the shops are losing money because it's currently difficult in the retail business."

The council said it hoped to employ mobile caterers to provide drinks and ice cream until the cafes were set up.
