Driver accused of bid to ram police officer in Corby

A man has been charged after a police officer was nearly struck by a car in Corby, Northamptonshire.

The incident happened in the car park of a branch of KFC in Oakley Road, at 23:30 GMT on Thursday.

Off-duty officer PC John Cummins narrowly avoided being injured by the car before a marked police car was involved in a collision with it.

Northamptonshire Police said a 49-year-old man would appear before magistrates at a later date.

He is charged with attempting to commit GBH against a police officer, affray, dangerous driving and failure to provide a specimen of breath.

PC Ruth Hay, who was in the patrol car that was struck, suffered a shoulder injury for which she was treated in hospital.
