Woman 'walking on M1' hit and killed by lorry

A woman killed when she was hit by a lorry on the M1 in Northamptonshire appeared to be walking in the motorway lane, said Thames Valley Police.

The M1 was closed for three hours between junctions 14 and 15 after the accident shortly before 11:00 BST on the southbound carriageway.

The motorway has since been reopened after officers spent time recovering the vehicle.

Thames Valley Police asked for any witnesses to the crash to contact them.

Officers also found a grey Audi A3 parked on the hard shoulder near the scene.

Sgt Simon Hills, from the roads policing department, said: "We believe it belongs to the victim. It has suffered recent damage, but this was not caused by the lorry."
