A43 Corby link road gets government backing

Work on the new £34m Corby link road is to start in June after the government approved funding for the project.

The A43 Corby Link Road scheme entails the construction of four miles (6.5km) of dual carriageway between the A6003 and the Stanion roundabout.

Planning permission has already been granted and all compulsory purchase orders are in place.

The appointment of a contractor is expected in the next three weeks and the road should be completed by 2014.

Leader of Northamptonshire County Council Jim Harker said: "The road will help to facilitate economic and population growth in the north of the county, in and around Corby and will relieve the A43 at Geddington of through traffic."

The government is contributing £20.5m to the project.

Northamptonshire County Council said it will find the rest of the money from section 106 contributions, which developers give to councils to support infrastructure around various developments, making a total cost of £33.9m.
