Two people were left with serious injuries when their car crashed into a house in Northampton.

The Vauxhall Vectra hit a house in Swinford Hollow, Little Billing, at about 20:40 BST on Wednesday.

The pair were later taken to hospital by ambulance. An eyewitness described the crash "like a bomb going off".

The semi-detached house was unoccupied but the house next door and one opposite have been evacuated in case the stricken home collapses.

It is believed the injured pair were a husband and wife and the home owners are on holiday.

Neighbour Kimberly Grant, who was watching TV at the time of the crash, said it was "like a bomb going off", adding "I'd never heard anything like it".

Northamptonshire Police has appealed for witnesses to come forward.
