Daventry 'dummy' parking fine plan is criticised

Council plans to issue "dummy" parking tickets have been branded a waste of time by a councillor.

Northamptonshire County Council will use fake tickets for two weeks as it takes over parking enforcement in Daventry from police.

The Conservative-controlled authority said the tickets would help people "become accustomed to the changes".

John McGhee, leader of the Labour group on the council, said the money could have been better spent.

"Parking is common sense and people know where they should park legally," he said.

The council, already responsible for parking in Northampton, Wellingborough, Corby, south Northamptonshire and east Northamptonshire, said it would be issuing fake tickets until the middle of June, after which real penalty charge notices would be handed out.
