A lorry has caught fire on the M1 in Northamptonshire, engulfing the driver's cab and part of the load in flames.

The northbound carriageway was closed for two hours between junction 15a for Towcester and junction 16 for Daventry.

The motorway reopened at 15:00 BST after the fire, just before Northampton Services.

Motorists travelling northwards are still advised to take alternative routes as congestion is building up.

The driver of the lorry escaped unharmed. It is believed to have been carrying building materials.
