Two bars at the centre of a mass brawl in Northampton will remain closed over the Christmas and New Year period.

Eight people were treated in hospital after a fight among dozens of revellers from Faces and NU Bar on Bridge Street in the town centre on 12 December.

The two bars, shut initially for seven days, will not reopen until after a review in January, the borough council licensing sub-committee said.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of wounding.

Police said the fight involved 50 or 60 people in the early hours of Friday 12 December.

Seven people have been discharged from hospital. The eighth remains in a stable condition.
