Welford Frozen charity fun day cancelled after residents complain
Organisers of a charity fun day featuring Fireman Sam and Elsa from Frozen are "heartbroken" they have had to cancel after residents' complaints.
The event at Mini Meadows Farm near Welford in Northamptonshire was due to raise money for Northampton Hospital's children's ward on 31 May.
It was called off after Daventry District Council wrote to the venue expressing "strongly worded concerns".
Organiser Tim Freed said the cancellation was "really sad".
Some 900 families had expressed an interest in attending the event at the venue, which is a specialist breeder of rare and unusual poultry and also has a children's farm.
The Toddle About Fun Day was to include bouncy castles, singing and dancing, music, tractor rides and sheep shearing.
Fireman Sam and Igglepiggle were to make special appearances, while tickets had been sold for "The Frozen Experience" which allowed children to spend time with characters from the Disney film.
A statement on the Toddle About Facebook page said the fun day had "been far more popular than expected and a number of locals have complained to the council, who have in turn written to Mini Meadows with strongly worded concerns".
It added: "The decision has not been made lightly.
"With so much time and effort having been put in it is heartbreaking to cancel."
Mr Freed said some residents had concerns over traffic passing through Weldon.
A statement from Daventry District Council said officers had contacted Mini Meadows Farm regarding "complaints from members of the public relating to the event and other activities at the site".
Mr Freed said the event would "come back bigger and stronger and better next year".
