Illegal drinkers to be taken home in Nottinghamshire

Young people have been warned they will be taken home if they are found drinking alcohol in the street in Nottinghamshire.

Police are stepping up patrols during the summer holidays in Mansfield and Ashfield.

Officers said under-18s caught with alcohol would be taken back to their parents or guardians and warned about their behaviour.

It is hoped the initiative will tackle alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour.

Police said alcohol has been seized from under-18s on more than 300 occasions in the area since September 2009.

Ch Insp Paul Winter said: "The majority of young people are looking forward to their summer holidays and will enjoy it safely and responsibly and within the law.

"However, experience tells us there will be a minority of under 18s intent on spending their holidays drinking alcohol illegally and causing trouble in our communities."
