Mansfield's historic Maltings to be auctioned

A historic former malthouse in Nottinghamshire is to be sold at auction to try to speed up the building's restoration.

Mansfield's Grade II-listed Maltings - a remnant of the town's brewing history - has been vacant since 2002, when it was last used as a nightclub.

The decision to sell the site follows a number of failed regeneration attempts by the district council.

It is likely to go under the hammer on 12 October, said the authority.

In recent years, the 18th Century building, off Midworth Street, has become a magnet for vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

Planning permission exists for conversion into office uses, but no restrictions are being placed on potential future use.

The sale will include a covenant which will require the building to be restored to acceptable conservation standards within an agreed time limit.
