Jobs fears over plans to close Ruddington laboratory

A pharmaceutical firm has announced plans to shut its Nottingham site as part of cost-cutting measures.

Vectura says the closure of its Ruddington laboratories, which employ about 100 people, will help save about £6m in the next financial year.

The firm has begun a consultation period with staff, but would not confirm how many jobs are at risk.

Vectura is based in Chippenham, Wiltshire, and also has a site in Cambridge.

It manufactures inhaled medicines for the treatment of respiratory diseases.

Dr Chris Blackwell, the company's chief executive, said a more "cautious environment" meant the firm had to reduce its cost base and focus on nearer-term projects.
