Campaigners fail to save Nottinghamshire library

A Nottinghamshire library is closing for the last time despite a campaign by local residents to keep it open.

Nottingham City Council announced the proposed closure of Wilford Library in December 2009 saying it was underused.

The local authority did offer the community six months to decide if they could run it themselves.

The Wilford Community Group managed to increase the number of library users but decided it was not able to take over the running of the library.

Residents will now have to travel to the Meadows or West Bridgford to their nearest library, which campaigners said would be too difficult for the elderly and disabled people in the area.
